Reclamation of Vacuna (Old Timers League): Battle Report for Round 1

The set-up for this battle will be: Scorched Earth! (Battle Missions Book) with 4 Objectives

This is a battle being fought and recorded for the Old Timers League Warhammer 40K Reclimation of Vacuna campaign.

The forces taking place in this battle are:

Elements of the Imperial Guard's Corinthean 501st Reclamation force:
Lord Commissar Unfeldt
2 Squads of Grenadier Veteran's in Chimera's
1 Squad of Ratling Long Rifles
(3) Sentinels
Punisher (Retribution)
Manticore (Prucella)
Leman Russ Tanks (Old Maid, Fist of Fury)

Total: 1,500pts

Deathguard (Maggots of Despair):
Nurgle Chaos Lord
Plague Marines: Squad Mortis with Aspiring Champion Brother Grumblegut
Plague Marines: Squad Moribus with Aspiring Champion Brother Vomitgrot
Plague Marines: Squad Pestis with Aspiring Champion Brother Maggotgut
Nurgle Renegades and Daemonic Support:
(4) Obliterators
Great Unclean One
3 Units of Plague Bearers

Total: 1,500pts

Round 1:
Squads Mortis and Moribus move into the burning cathedral and begin holding two of the 4 objectives.  Squad Pestis and the Deathguard Commander Lord Syphologen begin marching their way towards the third objective while the IG Commissar Lord Unfeldt begins to make his way towards the third objective as well.

Round 2:
In the burning Cathedral, Squad Mortis returns fire on the Ratling Longrifle squad that ambushed them on the first turn.  After losing half of their squad in a hail of unholy bolter fire, the remaining Longrifles decide they did all they could do for Lord Unfeldt and it was now time for them to head back to command and report their findings.  As the Longrifles begin running towards the relative safety of the imperial command, they witness three Obliterators and two squads of Plague Bearers materialize behind their former comrades.  Although one of the Obliterators was killed, a Sentinels was destroyed, and a chimera was immobilized.

Round 3:
Even though an Imperial Punisher and Manticore come out of reserve in support of their beleaguered comrades. a Great Unclean One joins the Chaos Lord in his push towards the third objective as well as another Obliterator materializes out of the void to support his cult brothers deep within the Imperial lines.

The Punisher kills one of the three remaining Obliterators, but not before the immobilized Chimera and it's entire squad get eradicated. The Manticore attempts to support Commissar Unfeldt as he, the remaining guardsmen, and the last two Sentinels opened fire on the Great Unclean One. While one of the Manticores two rockets do indeed land on the GUO, the combined fire power of everything hitting the Great Unclean One results in only one wound. Unfortunately for Lord Unfeldt, the second missile meets with more success as it lands in the middle of his squad of Grenadiers.

Round 4:
As the two remaining Imperial Leman Russ Tanks finally rumble onto the scene, the Punisher earns it's second kill of a Nurgle Obliterator.  The kill did not come in time to stop the combined firepower of the remaining two Obliterators from destroying the Imperial Manticore.  More Plague Bearers appear behind the Guardsman's lines and begin to form a defensive perimeter around the fourth objective.

The Deathguard host decending onto the third objective proved to be too much Lord Unfeldt and the remaining Grenadiers.  Unfeldt, the Grenadiers, both Sentinels, and the last Chimera are all destroyed.  The third and final objective falls into the hands of the servants of Nurgle.

Round 5:
The last of the Obliterators is able to take out one of the two Leman Russ Tanks before it too is destroyed.  Leaving a contingent of Plague Bearers to secure the third objective,  Lord Syphologen, the Great Unclean One, and Squad Pestis of the Deathguard begin to make their way to the remaining two Imperial Tanks.

Round 6:
The remaining Imperial Tanks fire half-heartedly into the advancing forces before they decide to follow in the wake of the retreating Ratling Longrifles.

Nurgle CSM Victory:  2-0

Epilogue:

With the battle finally over, the summoned Daemons begin to fade as they return to the warp.  Lord Syphologen turns to his troops and begins barking commands.  "Gather the Imperial bodies.  The survivors are to be sent back to our Lord Commander on board the Contagion....." he begins to grin maliciously......"the dead, well they come with us!"

40K in 40 Minutes: Deathguard vs Blood Angels (2)

This is a battle being fought and recorded for the online Warhammer 40K Aftermath campaign.

The forces taking place in this battle are:

Blood Angels:
Tactical Squad: Vet. Sergeant and Rhino Troop Transport (255pts)
Scout Squad (145 pts)
Total: 400pts

Deathguard:
Plague Marines: Squad Putridus with Brother Poxspreader

Lesser Daemons (65 pts)
Lesser Daemons (65 pts)
Total: 396 pts

*Special Rules:
Minimum of one troop choice.
Maximum of one HQ.
No models may have more than 2 wounds.
No special characters.
No 2+ save.
No vehicle may have a total armor value greater than 33 (front, side, rear)
WYSIWYG!

The Blood Angel player wins the dice roll and will set-up first.

Turns 1 and 2:
Both the Blood Angel Rhino and the Deathguard Rhino race forward towards the center of the table.  Although the Blood Angel Lascannon fails to score any hits, the melta gun gets the job done and immobilizes the Deathguard transport.

Turn 3:
Cobat is engaged!

Turn 4:
The Deathguard, along with their Daemonic support, make short work of the Blood Angel combat squad.  Under a hail of gungfire, they begin to make their way towards the Blood Angel scouts.

Turn 5:
Although sustaining several wounding shots, the resilience of the Deathguard proves invaluable as they make almost all of their "feels no pain" rolls.

Turn 6:
The Blood Angels combat squad decide to finish off the Deathguard transport and open fire upon it again with the squad lascannon.  This time they were successful and the transport becomes a smouldering wreck.

With the combat squad concentrating on the rhino, the scout squad was left to fend for itself.  Although they put up an inspiring stand, the chosen legion of Nurgle are not denied their second successful assault.
The Blood Angel scout squad is overrun and destroyed.

Turn 7:
The Blood Angels combat squad and their Rhino transport fail in their last ditch effort to finish off at least one squad of the forces of Nurgle, and the game ends with a 2-1 victory for the Deathguard.

40K in 40 Minutes: Deathguard vs Blood Angels

The set-up for this battle will be: Seize Ground/Pitched Battle.

This is a battle being fought and recorded for the online Warhammer 40K Aftermath campaign.

The forces taking place in this battle are:

Blood Angels:
Tactical Squad: Vet. Sergeant and Rhino Troop Transport (255pts)
Scout Squad (145 pts)

Total: 400pts

Deathguard:
Plague Marines: Squad Putridus with Brother Poxspreader
Rhino (dedicated transport) (266pts)
Lesser Daemons (65 pts)
Lesser Daemons (65 pts)

Total: 396 pts

*Special Rules:
Minimum of one troop choice.
Maximum of one HQ.
No models may have more than 2 wounds.
No special characters.
No 2+ save.
No vehicle may have a total armor value greater than 33 (front, side, rear)
WYSIWYG!

The Blood Angel player wins the dice roll and will set-up first.

Turns 1 and 2:

The Blood Angel scouts slide into position to claim the second objective and end up getting "flamed" by squad Pestis. Their lascannon misses the Deathguard Rhino and the Blood Angel Rhino rushes forward to try to get to the third objective. The Deathguard try and summon their deamonic allies and fail miserably.

Turn 3:

The Blood Angel Rhino reaches the third objective and it's passengers disembark, claiming the third and final objective, while the Deathguard are finally able to summon their Daemonic Allies.

Turn 4:

Although the Deathguard Rhino fired smoke in it's previous turn the combined fire of the lascannon and the melta gun from the Blood Angels is just too much for the rhino and it gets immobilized. The Death Guard are forced to exit the smouldering vehicle and slogg it towards the third objective. The two squads of Daemons charge into the two remaining squads of Blood Angels.

Turn 5:

Turn 5 becomes a bloody mess with all three objectives having assaults being fought on top of them.

Turn 6:

Although the lesser, "lesser" Daemons are able to defeat the remaining scouts on the second objective, the Blood Angel Rhino rushes forward and attempt to tank-shock the victorious daemons.

Turn 7:

The Deathguard assault into the remains of the Blood Angel tactical is finally concluded with the Deathguard now in sole posession of the second objective.

Game ends with a slim, and I do mean slim Deathguard Victory: 1-0 with 2 objectives contested.

The forces taking place in this battle are:

Tzeentch:
Blue Scribes
Squad of Flamers with Changeling Upgrade
Sacraficial Daemonette squad

Deathguard:
7 man Plague Marine Squad: Squad Carrion with Rhino
5 man Lesser Daemon Squad
5 man Lesser Daemon Squad

The Tzeentch player wins the dice roll and will go first.

Turns 1 and 2:
The flamers deepstrike atop a ridgeline just within shooting range of the Nurgle rhino, and end up immobilizing it. With the Deathguard being forced to disembark and advance towards the daemons, the Blue Scribes swoop in and blast the Deathguard squad twice with "Wind of Chaos".

6 of the 7 Deathguard are killed. Now you see them, now you don't!

Before:

After:

Turn 3:
The Deathguard Aspiring champion, aided by the "lesser" lesser daemons that had been summoned last turn, are able to defeat the Blue Scribes.

Turn 4:
The second squad of nurgle,"lesser" lesser daemons enter combat with the Daemonettes and are able to hold ground as reinforcements rush in to aid them.

Turns 5 and 6:

Battle for Arcus Hold: 40K in 40 Minutes, Deathguard vs Deathwing

The set-up for this battle will be: Capture and Control/Dawn of War.

This is a battle being fought and recorded for the online Warhammer 40K Aftermath campaign.

The forces taking place in this battle are:

Deathwing:
Deathwing Terminator squad with heavy flamer
Space Marine Dread

Deathguard:

7 man Plague Marine Squad: Squad Carrion with Rhino
5 man Lesser Daemon Squad
5 man Lesser Daemon Squad

*Special Rules:
Minimum of one troop choice.
Maximum of one HQ.
No models may have more than 2 wounds.
No special characters.
No 2+ save.
WYSIWYG!
Usually it is "No vehicle may have a total armor value greater than 33 (front, side, rear)" But since Ron (++from the warp++) cheats all the time, we decided it just wasn't worth bringing up the whole Armour thing :)

The Deathguard player wins the dice roll, but hands over the first turn to the Deathwing.

Turns 1 and 2:
The Deathwing Dread is able to immobilize the Deathguard Rhino on turn 1 and are then able to drop their Terminator squad directly in front of the immobilized rhino.

After summoning a squad of their "lesser" daemons, the Deathguard disembark from the rhino and then shower the terminators in multiple baths of flames just before they assault them.

Turn 3:
With combat engaged, it doesn't take all that long for the Deathguard and "Lesser" Daemons to overcome the outnumbered terminators.

With three scoring units surrounding their objective, and the Deathwing having no more scoring units, we called the game.

Game ends with a Deathguard Victory: 1-0

2000pt Planet Strike: 'Deffwing vs Plaguewing

The set-up for this battle will be: Planetstrike, with three objectives.

This is a battle being fought and recorded for the online Warhammer 40K online Aftermath campaign.

The forces taking place in this battle are:

Ork 'Deffwing:
Mega Nobz squad with Warboss and Battlewagon (645 pts)
Mega Nobz squad with Warboss and Battlewagon (645 pts)
Mega Nobz squad with Grotsnik and War Truck(375 pts)
Forgeworkd Mega Dread (205 pts)
Forgeworkd Mega Dread (205 pts)
Total: 2045 pts

Plaguewing:
Chaos Lord: Typhus (225 pts)
Chaos Lord: Encephalatitus (175 pts)
Greater "lesser" Daemon (100 pts)
Plaguewing Terminator Squad (330 pts)
Plaguewing Terminator Squad (300 pts)
Plaguewing Terminator Squad (300 pts)
2 man Nurgle Obliterator Squad (150 pts)
2 man Nurgle Obliterator Squad (150 pts)
Lesser Daemon squad (91 pts)
Lesser Daemon squad (91 pts)
Lesser Daemon squad (91 pts)
Total: 2003 pts

*Special Rules:
As per outlined in the Planet Strike codex.

The 'Deffwing player is the attacker, so he will go first.

Turn 1:

The 'Deffwing unleash seven barages of "Firestorm" missile strikes to cover their initial advance. With the two battlewagons full of Nobz in Mega Armour pushing towards the center objective, the Wartrukk with Grotsnik races up the left flank towards the second objective.

Knowing full well that my lone Plaguewing squad could not hold the center objective against the tide of Mega Nobz headed their way, I summoned the "lesser" GUO and "lesser" lesser daemons to help bolster their defense.

Turn 2:

Lol...the speed bump that I summoned to throw in front of the Mega Nobz was just that....a speed bump. The "lesser" daemons were wiped out within 1 round of combat. It was time to see what the Plaguewing and GUO could do.

Turn 3:

The battle for the center objective comes to a close with the GUO and Plaguewing being wiped out as well. There was a silver lining to the loss of the center objective. One of the squads of Nobz in Mega Armour was forced to flee after failing a morale test when they were taken below 50%.

On the left flank, the trukk carrying Grotsnik and his retinue of Nobz in Mega Armour was destroyed, forcing them to have to advance (slowly) on foot. The two Ork Mega Dreads that were supporting Grotsnik relentlessly pounded away at Typhus and the Plaguewing squad that were defending the second objective.

Turn 4:

While the Orks consolidated and dug in to protect and hold the center objective, Typhus and the Plaguewing squad race out and assault Grotsnik. After an intense but brief fight, Grotsnik and his Nobz are defeated. Typhus and the terminators prepare to go after the Mega Dreads.

Since the third objective was not under any threat of being captured, Encephalatitus and his accompanying Plaguewing squad had left the obliterators behind to guard the objective while they advanced towards the Mega Nobz holding the center objective.

Turn 5:

Typhus and his accompanying Plaguewing squad are able to destroy the Mega Dread they assaulted, and prepare to go after the last of the Mega Dreads.

Turn 6:

In a surprising victory, Encephalatitus and his Plaguewing squad were able to drive off the Mega nobz holding the center objective. The battle was brief but intense. Yet again, the Mega Nobz were forced to flee after failing a morale check.

Game ends with a Deathguard Victory: 3-0

Since this was our first attempt at playing Planet Strike, we naturally made a few mistakes. The one fairly major mistake we made was that the attacker declared his table edge before the objectives were placed. Since the defender gets to place all objectives, I naturally placed them all within heavily fortified buildings that were as far away from the Ork deployment as I could make them. If we would have placed the objectives before the Ork player picked his deployment zone, (as we should have) I really don't think the outcome would have been the same.

Hehehe.....do you know how terrifying it is to see 18 mega nobz and 2 warbosses closing in on a lone terminator squad. Those terms just don't seem all that tough anymore :)

Turn 3:
Turn three has the Dark Angel Librarian and the remaining Deathwing Terminators assault Squad Rictus of the Deathguard, and the remains of the Dark Angel tactical squads assault the advancing Nurgle lesser Daemons. The Plasma gunner from squad Mortis and the Dark Angel Dread exchange fire with the plasma gunner able to knock out the missile launcher on the dread.

Turn 4:
Is a bloody mess! Deathguard, Deathwing, Dark Angels, etc....all die. It is a bloodbath. Even Khorne would be impressed. Turn 5:
At the end of turn 5, the Dark Angel librarian finally falls to the relentless attacks the lesser daemons, but not before he dispatches the aspiring champion from squad Rictus. Although daemonic support arrives early, the Dark Angels small arms fire draw first blood. The Deathguard not only lose a trooper from squad Rictus, but two of the newly arrived daemons as well.

Turn 3:

Combat is engaged! After some small arms fire by both sides, squad Rictus assaults the combined units of the Dark Angel Force Commander, the Deathwing Terms and squad 2, while The Dark Angel Librarian charges a squad of daemons. During both rounds of combat, the DA Force Commander goes down as well as several of the daemons.

Turn 4:

More Daemons enter the battle, with small arms fire from both sides result in no real casualties. Although the Dark Angel Librarian finished off the rest of the Daemons he was fighting during combat, squad Rictus was able to wound the melta gunner from squad 2 and one of the Death Wing Terminators.

Turn 5:

More close combat carnage! Although Brother Grumblegut is wounded and three more daemons fall to the Dark Angel Librarian, the Librarian finally sustains a wound. The combined force of Squad Mortis and Squad Rictus is finally able to drop the last of the Death Wing Terminators. They consilidate and begin heading towards the Dark Angel held objective. Also during turn 5, the missile launcher on the Dark Angel Dread is destroyed.

Turn 6:
Even though the Dark Angel Librarian attempt to stop them, Brother Grumblegut and the combined might of the depleated Squads Mortis and Rictus, are finally able overcome and defeat the Dark Angel Librarian. There is some small arms fire but no casualties. Although the daemons are available on turn 1, they fail to appear on either turn.

Turn 3:
Combat is engaged! After some small arms fire by both sides (2 deathguard troopers and 1 deathwing terminator fall) the Deathguard...still without daemonic support...assault both the Dark Angel Combat squad #1 and the Deathwing terminators.

Subjugation of Ignus: Mini-Campaign Battle Report 1

The first battle is Sieze Ground/Spearhead with 5 objectives.

The forces (250 pts):
Dark Angels Deathwing Terminator Squad (@245pts)
Deathguard Plague Marine Squad, Squad Mortis (@241pts)

*Special Rules:
Player may split unit(s) in the movement phase.
Deathwing Terminators may take two heavy weapons.

The Deathwing win the dice roll and set-up first. They choose to deploy directly on top of objective #4. The Deathguard deploy approximately half way between objectives #1 and #3.

Turn 1:
The Deathwing split into 3 groups. One assault cannon stays on top of objective #4, while the second one begins moving to objective #5. The Vetran Sergeant and two remaining terms begin moving towards objective #1.

The Deathguard move towards objective #1.

Turn 2:
The two Deathwing Terminators with assault cannons give covering fire to the Vetran Sergeant and two remaining terms as the three of them take cover behind a hedge which is very close to objective #1. The second terminator with assault cannon continues on towards objective #5.

The Deathguard move past objective #1 and Assault the terms behind the hedge. During the combat, two of the Deathguard troops go down as well as two of the "regular" Deathwing terms (power fists and lightning claws make short work of Feels-no-pain and 5+ invulnerable saves).

Turn 3:
The combat continues through both the Deathwing turn as well as Deathguard turn. Although the Deathwing Vet. Sergeant finally goes down, he takes one more Deathguard trooper with him.
Turn 4:

Both of the Deathwing assault cannons open fire upon the Deathguard squad, and one of the plasma gunners is wounded. Unfortunately the plague marine fails his armor save as well as his feels-no-pain.

The remaining three Deathguard split into two units. The second plasma gunner stays in place so that he may continue to claim objective #1, while the other two Deathguard move onward to objective #5.
Turn 5:

Both Deathwing terms open fire upon the advancing two Deathguard, but to no avail.

The Deathguard aspiring champion and trooper reach objective #5 and assault the lone Deathwing terminator there. After a brief but intense fight, the Deathwing terminator fails his 2+ save. The Deathguard have claimed objective #5.

Turn 6:

Game Ends with the Deathguard winning 2-1.

Injuries:
Dark Angels: Vetran Sergeant -1bs, Assault Cannon#2 -1ws, Storm Bolter #1 -1ws, Storm Bolter#2 -half movment.
Deathguard: Plasma gunner #1 KIA, Plasma gunner #2 -1ws, DG with horns KIA, DG with helmet -1ws.
*Although I may have won the battle, having 2 of my Deathguard troopers go down as KIA may prove very costly.
